With the motto Generation Restoration: Reimagine, recreate, restore, we celebrate World Environment Day
On 5th June, we celebrate World Environment Day. For too long, we have exploited and destroyed our planet’s ecosystems. Every three seconds, the world loses an area of forest equivalent to a football field and, in the last century alone, we have destroyed half of our wetlands. 50% of our coral reefs have already been lost and by 2050, up to 90% could disappear, even if global warming is limited to an increase of 1.5 °C.
The loss of ecosystems is depriving the world of carbon sinks, such as forests and peatlands, at a time when humanity can no longer afford it. Global greenhouse gas emissions have increased for three consecutive years and the planet is one step away from potentially catastrophic climate change.
Restoring ecosystems means preventing, stopping and reversing this damage, and moving from exploiting nature to healing it. To this end, and precisely on this day, will kick off the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of the mountains. mountains to the depths of the sea. Only with healthy ecosystems can we improve people’s lives, counter climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity.
From the AGQ Labs Group we support this World Environment Day, and we will contribute from our role as a testing laboratory, inspection entity and environmental technology center implemented in more than 20 countries, promoting measures and projects aligned with sustainable development and its 2030 Agenda.
